The Future(build) is Bright: The Concrete Centre at Futurebuild 2019
26 Feb 2019
The Concrete Centre will be returning to Futurebuild 2019, previously known as Ecobuild, taking place at ExCel London on 5th - 7th March 2019.
The Concrete Centre are in the Materials Hub, stand E81 and will be providing a wealth of expert advice and practical guidance on the many ways in which designers can use concrete and masonry construction to achieve sustainability, performance and aesthetic goals.
The stand will feature information hubs on:
• Concrete and the Circular Economy
• Sustainable Concrete
• Concrete and Whole-life Carbon
As well as exploring the Sustainable Lifecycle of Concrete with a focus on:
• Biodiversity… and bumblebees
• Design… for material efficiency
• Longevity… re-use
• Recycling… at end of life
The stand will also showcase the new video on thermal mass that features interviews with the project teams at the Royal College of Pathologists and White Collar Factory.
There is also a wealth of expertise and guidance available with updated guidance on:
• Specifying Sustainable Concrete – with the update to BS 8500 – Amendment 2;
• Concrete and Fire Safety – with the update based on the combustibles ban;
• Thermal Mass Explained – with the latest guidance on overheating;
• Concrete Credentials and the latest Concrete Industry Sustainable Performance Report.
Materials Hub Theatre
The Concrete Centre has also curated three seminar sessions for the Materials Hub Theatre that explore a Fit for the Future theme. Our built environment is shaped by the changing needs of society. Construction materials play a part in ensuring that our buildings, meet our current needs and are fit for the future: resilient to climate change, low carbon, material efficient and robust and secure. These seminar sessions, chaired by The Concrete Centre, will provide insights into how concrete and masonry can enable designers to meet these challenges.
Tuesday 5th March - Innovations in Concrete
This session will explore a range of innovations and new technology being applied to materials, production, logistics, construction and re-use in the concrete sector including offsite construction. The session will feature projects using innovative concrete and digital construction as well as the latest innovations and research.
Wednesday 6th March - Circular Economy of Concrete
This session will provide guidance on best practice in material efficiency, exploring reducing embedded materials, designing for re-use and recycling at end-of-life. The session will feature projects that use these strategies including the new Royal College of Pathologists Headquarters by Bennetts Associates.
Thursday 7th March - Fit for the Future
This session will explore how structural materials play a part in ensuring that our buildings are fit for the future: resilient to climate change, low carbon, material efficient, robust, fire resistant, secure and built to last. The session will include a case study of the White Collar Factory by AHMM Architects.
