Sustainability series

Throughout the Sustainability Series, The Concrete Centre will provide a wealth of information and resources to enable designers to specify sustainable concrete, design sustainably with concrete, navigate the research and data available to inform sustainable decision-making as well as provide insights into the innovation and research that will shape the future of concrete.

Over the coming months, The Concrete Centre will run live events, Q&As, workshops and provide a hub of useful resources including on-demand webinars, guidance and research. For those new to live virtual events or the software used, please refer to the following logistical guidelines by clicking here. Recordings of past live events and webinars will be available as recordings via the webinar hub below.

The Sustainability Series began with a focus on Low Carbon Concrete, and a Low Carbon Concrete Compass is now available to assist with navigating through information on this topic. The live events and webinars from this theme are available in the Sustainability Series on-demand hub below.

Saving carbon with lean, material efficient structures

A core principle of sustainable construction is to reduce the amount of material, or ‘stuff’ used. In other words, to do more with less.  This approach also feeds into circular economy principles and lowering carbon emissions. This is the current focus of our Sustainability Series.

Watch now - Elaine Toogood, Head of Architecture talks about exposing concrete structure for material efficient and low carbon design.

Live events

  • Material efficiency and concrete - This webinar will provide guidance on whole-life waste minimisation and material efficiency when designing with concrete and masonry.
  • Case Study: Exploring Town House, University of Kingston - This live event will hear from the project team who will discuss how material efficiency was achieved with the combination of precast and in-situ concrete at this amazing new teaching facility.
  • Coming soon - new webinar on material efficient post-tensioned concrete floors
  • Coming soon - new webinar on using thermal mass to design out materials and save energy and carbon
