Client:The Swiss Church in London

Architect:Christ & Gantenbein

Date of completion:2011

Emanuel Christ, co-director of Swiss practice Christ & Gantenbein, guides BD around the all-white interiors of the Swiss Church in Covent Garden.

The Basel-based practice was appointed to help re-imagine the interiors of the grade II listed church in Covent Garden after an earlier scheme by Herzog & de Meuron proved too ambitious to realise.

The resulting £2 million project, which has featured as both a first look and a building study in BD, was completed earlier this year. At the heart of the scheme is a new two-storey concrete framed structure, with angular glazed panels, which replaces the enclosed lobby space added to the building in the 1950s.
