This guide has been updated following the revision to BS 8102 in 2022. It focuses on providing general guidance to inform the design and construction process and help the project team navigate the requirements of BS 8485:2015+A1:2019 and BS 8102:2022.
The Basement Information Centre working group formed to author this guide comprised ground gas specialists, structural waterproofing specialists, warranty providers, designers, and product experts with the aim of providing a best practice approach for below ground structures that addresses both gas proofing and waterproofing.
The book shares expertise and advice and worked examples as well as identifying some of the areas where designers need to be aware of potential conflicts between the standards. It should be noted that this publication is not intended to provide detailed design guidance. It is recommended that ground gas specialists and structural waterproofing specialists are appointed as part of the project team at an early stage.
